| The Tangodog© Story |
| Twenty-four years ago, Diego Lukezic was a little boy that lived in the big city of Buenos Aires Argentina. Every other day Diego’s mother would put his hat on for him and together they would walk to the outdoor market for groceries. He could hear tango music from a distance. Little Diego happily skipped though the cobblestone streets with eagerness to get there. At the market the vendors kindly greeted little Diego and his mother. The market was a busy place with pleasing Tango music play by “Tangoman” he wore a long coat with a black hat that covered his face, he sat on wooden crate with his Bandoneon (a music instrument) on his lap, singing and playing lovely music for coins. Next to him was his small dog "Tango" he was white with black spots. This little dog was Diego’s favorite thing in the whole the market. Every time Tango saw, Diego he’d jumped and danced all over the place with excitement. Little Diego would ask his mother for change to tip the Tangoman, using this as an excuse to sit and play with Tangodog. This happened for several years...... Everything was perfect for Diego until he found out his family was moving to another neighborhood. He felt very sad, for he knew he would not see tango any more. This is when Diego began to draw and paint Tangodog. Diego could not forget the expression in Tangodog’s eyes as he walked away, the last day he went to the market……..Many Years went by…….. Diego still missed Tango terribly. Diego knew that Tango missed him too. One day after school, Diego went to visit his Grandmother, near his old neighborhood, as he walked along, a man with a black hat caught his eye. Diego knew it was the Tangoman. Diego ran to him and asked, "Where is Tango, your dog?" With a frown Tangoman replied, "He is dead and so is my music." Diego responded,” He is dead for you, but not for me, he will live forever“…For Diego Tangodog will live eternally in his paintings and in memories… Diego has been showing and selling his “Tangodog” artwork for 15 years in the United States, primarily in New Orleans Louisiana. New Orleans was Diego’s home for 14 years, in August 2005 moved away from New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina. Soon after, in September 2005 he opened Diego Lukezic Gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico. |
